LOOKING FOR JOHN

LOOKING FOR JOHN

Written and performed by Tony Timberlake

Directed by Tessa Walker

After a sell-out run at the Birmingham Rep in November 2016 this wonderful show now skates in to EdFest 2017

1976.

19 million people watched Birmingham-born skater John Curry win Olympic gold. Just hours after his victory, John was outed by the tabloids but his iconic Olympic routine and the extraordinary life that followed, changed one young boy's life forever. Looking For John is a powerful, heartfelt and comic story of one man's obsession with a forgotten hero and his journey to get him celebrated once more.

Looking for John is a loving and sincere examination of a hero… a well-paced and fascinating hour of theatre. Timberlake’s performanceis funny, heartfelt, and deeply sincere. The personal exploration of both Curry and Timberlake complement each other, and prove immensely watchable.         BURN FM

Timberlake paints the good and the bad in both Curry’s world and his own. Through emotional and sometimes painful accounts of recalling past events, Timberlake allows the audience to question between ‘right and wrong’ with accepting the queer community and how much acceptance has changed within the past three decades
